EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a form of psychotherapy that helps people heal from trauma and emotional distress that result from disturbing life experiences. Studies have shown that the benefits of psychotherapy can be experienced by those using EMDR therapy, without years of treatment.

It is widely thought that severe emotional trauma requires a long time to heal. EMDR therapy shows us that the mind can heal from psychological trauma, much the same way the body recovers from physical trauma. When you cut yourself, your body goes to work to close and heal the wound. If a foreign object irritates the wound, it causes pain.

Once the object is removed, healing resumes.

EMDR therapy demonstrates that a similar sequence of events occurs with our mental processes. The brain’s system for processing information naturally moves toward mental health recovery. If the system is blocked or becomes imbalanced by the impact of a disturbing or traumatic event, the emotional wound will and can cause intense internal suffering.

Once that block is addressed and removed, healing resumes. Using the detailed protocols and procedures learned in EMDR therapy training sessions, Kate can help you work to activate your natural healing processes.

Kate Crawford is an EMDR-trained therapist.
